This collection contains the business records of the Burlington (Vermont) Traction Company and its predecessor companies, the Winooski and Burlington Horse Railroad Company and the Military Post Street Railway Company. Also included are scattered records of both related electric companies and Burlington Rapid Transit. Records in the collection include accounts, cash vouchers, general expenses, cash books, tally books, examinations by accountants, inventories and appraisals of property, operating reports, stock ledgers, capitol stock books, ledger sheets, and annual reports for the period 1883 to 1929. These records document the financial health of the company and the popularity of its services. The collection also includes early bus financial and ridership records as well as records related to the People's Hydro Electric Vermont Corporation, the People's Light and Power Corporation, and the Vergennes Electric Company in 1926.
